Operation Troop Support "OTS" was started in March 2003 by Lt
Col USAF (Ret) Dick Moody and his wife Christine of Danvers,
MA. The Moodys had two children on active duty in the Air Force
at the outbreak of the war in Afghanistan and Iraq. Their daughter,
a combat medic stationed at the Landstuhl Regional Medical
Center in Germany, reported to her parents that the recovering
patients had very few items to keep their mind off the pain while
they healed. The Moodys began collecting books, magazines,
games, snacks, and toiletries for the patients in the hospital, and
when their son, an Air Force security policeman deployed to the
desert shortly thereafter, they continued sending care packages to
the soldiers on the front lines as well. From this beginning, the
award winning nationally known 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
was born.
Operation Troop Support’s motto is "Help Us Help Them”.
Through this non-political program that crosses party lines and
includes all military branches and all affected Americans, OTS has
been instrumental in reaching thousands of servicemen and women
who need to be remembered. Our program brings the needs of the
American soldier, sailor, airman, and marine to the people in a way
that everyone can help, and what better way can we all serve this
great nation than to care for those who daily put their lives on the
line for our freedom.
Operation Troop Support – be a part of a wonderful cause.
OUR IMPACT
CARE PACKAGE PROGRAM
Over the past twenty two years, Operation Troop Support has sent over 1,500,000 care packages to over 450 units stationed across the globe. Each week throughout the year, up to 150 packages containing books, magazines, toiletries, food, clothing, games, and miscellaneous items are sent to the military hospitals and active units across the world, all carefully packed and protected from spillage or damage. OTS has been asked by congressional offices in Washington DC as well as military units, civic groups, businesses, and private citizens to add military members to our mailing list. The organization’s postage costs exceed $1,500 each week and are covered by donations and fund raising events.
